Design for Manufacture Services

plastic injection mould tools south west uk

Manufacturers need an injection moulding partner who can produce quality parts whilst catering to their unique industry needs, specifications, end uses and most importantly their time/budget constraints.

We know that the biggest cost and time efficiencies are made early in the design process stage, formerly known as Design for manufacturing (DFM).

DFM is the general engineering practice of designing products in such a way that they are easy to manufacture.  It focuses on minimising the complexities involved in the manufacturing process as well as reducing the overall part production cost whilst optimising quality.

DFM allows potential problems to be resolved at the design stage which is the least expensive place to deal with them.  Other factors may affect the manufacture such as the type of raw material, the form of raw material, dimensional tolerances, and secondary processing such as finishing.  Up to 70% of manufacturing costs can be determined by design decisions.

To assist with your DFM requirements we need a 3D CAD model or 2D drawing including dimensions.

From your drawing we can produce prototypes or a digital print.

By involving us early in the design stage to understand your objectives, we can forecast and iron out any production issues.  Our early input will help you to maximise the return on your investment.

The intended use of the part is key when you consider the various manufacturing stages.  Our engineers have extensive knowledge of the various polymers available and their performance characteristics.  We can guide you in selecting the right type of polymer based on the product end use and its environment as well as your budget.  Our injection moulding and materials knowledge eradicates guesswork and will help streamline production.
