Ersatz eggs are an environmentally-friendly and humane method of reducing seagull populations in our towns and cities. Made from polystyrene and filled with sand, these eggs are assembled in our factory. Recent scientific studies have proven that urban gulls will accept plastic imitation eggs in place of their own in the nest. Buyers include Bristol City Council, Cheltenham City Council, Taunton Deane Borough Council, Dundee City Council, Cardiff City Council and Looe Town Council. Simon Moon, of Taunton Deane Borough Council's Environmental Health Department, has recently completed an MSc dissertation on the use of the eggs, examining and comparing the most common control methods - it concludes that PNP's dummy eggs are the best and most practical solution.
With the support of PNP, Simon is now conducting further research into the problems of urban gulls in the form of a PhD with De Montfort University and will be trailing modified plastic eggs to further develop and enhance the product.
